So I will call the monkeys to ask them to water the garden for me so I can have fun and spend the holidays with the others". So he called the monkeys and asked them to water the garden. After the gardener left, the Monkeys took the waterskins and the watering can and began to water the saplings. But the leader of

The dove took the girl to a cave where she lived. But after a while the girl said that she wanted to return to her mother. The dove told the girl to stay in the cave, but the girl left. Now when she went home, she got sick again. She died and they threw her out again. She came the dove, grabbed it and took it away. But the girl returned home with the intention of never going back to the cave again. When the dove came looking for him, she stood outside and sang.
Go, go, go! give me my jewels, give them back
So I can go home where the rain falls
C'mon C'mon
The parents closed the door but forgot to close the window, so the pigeon entered through the window and went straight to where the girl was sleeping. death that kills
The innocent and the guilty
Leaders and their subjects
The healthy and the sick
The wise and the foolish. So one day he sent a servant to the land with a message for all his people. Send me an offering of fresh fat without blemish, he commanded. It must be as clean and bright as the moon. Hearing this, the people killed a goat, trimmed its pure white fat, and placed it in an earthenware pot covered with fine fresh leaves.
Now they summoned Ngongruok, also known as Haniafu the chameleon, and ordered him to bring his offering to Nyasaye. They also formed a long pole that reached to the sky where Nyasaye lives in the glory of it. This was the path that Ngongruok would take to carry his sacrifice.
But Ngonguruok accidentally fattened his clumsy feet, and when he reached Nyasaye, he offered a dirty and ugly sacrifice. Nyasaye was enraged and pushed him away, shouting: Tell the people of the land that because of this insult they must continue to die, just as their ancestors did!
Ngongruok descended from heaven and delivered Nyasaye's message and returned the sacrifice to the people. Sadly, death has continued to haunt people ever since. Due to his clumsiness, Ngongruok was cursed by the people. Therefore, he should always walk on all fours, and his steps should be hesitant and slow. That's why you always see him lifting one leg off the ground as he tries to decide exactly where to step.

Among the participants in the race was the famous Bushbaby. Bushbaby was the most feared animal in the forest due to its speed and agility. The other animals thought this would be an easy win for Bushbaby. And then everyone doubted. Even other fast runners like Antelope and Gazelle hesitated. However, Chameleon went ahead and said that he would take on Bushbaby. That drew a boo from the crowd. Who did not know that the chameleon was one of the slowest animals in the jungle?
However, this did not discourage him. He reiterated his decision to challenge Bushbaby in the race. The race started on the blast of a whistle. Bushbaby was gone in an instant. But before he could move past Chameleon, Chameleon reached out and grabbed Bushbaby's long fluffy tail. He clung to her like a magnet.
In the end, Chameleon sat down first. As Bushbaby prepared to sit down, he heard a powerful voice behind her.
"Hey my friend. Don't sit on top of me." It was the chameleon that spoke. He had won the match.

Make me a grave wherever you want
On a low plain or on a high hill;
Do it under the lowest graves on earth,
But not in a country where men are slaves.

I heard the footsteps of a trembling slave;
your shadow on my silent grave
I would make it a place of terrible melancholy
I couldn't rest when I heard the step
Of a coffle led to confusion,
And the mother's wild cry of despair
Rise like a curse in the shaking sky

QUESTION 17
Read the poem below and answer the questions that follow in 20 points
NATURALLY
I'm afraid of the workers: they twist in the undergrowth
And mud full of worms: it goes with the dawn, it returns with the twilight
Go with seeds and come back with fat burning fruits
and i eat the fruit
And they still work: at boiling point
In deafening noise and menacing saws
They suck their energy from the slimy cassava
And rusty faucets: until they make a Benz
And I drive the Benz: decked out
With striped rags and copper-wrapped python monsters
While the workers ring bells
And I invaded your children
They build their hives: often outside
From the broken bones of his comrades:
And I hum them - 'state-house'
Eles, 'college them', 'make them official'
Me too . . . I prostitute your daughters
Raised in rotten slums
And I wish you a fast and good life.
To break the tie
And I tell the workers to unite
Knowing well, they cannot see, hear or understand:
What about sweat and dirt closing your ears?
And the eyes already exploded with billowing sparks
And I speak a colorless language
But one day a storm will flood
the rotten dumpsters
And wash the eyes of the workers
Refreshes long worn muscles
Blow
(Door Austin Bukenya in An Introduction to East African Poetry)

- Identify a character trait of the person as described in the poem.
- Explain the meaning of the following lines as they are used in the poem.
- Go with seeds and come back with fat burning fruits
and i eat the fruit - But one day a storm will flood

And wash the eyes of the workers
Refreshes long worn muscles
Blow
- Go with seeds and come back with fat burning fruits
- Identify two examples in the poem that describe workers living in terrible conditions. (2 points)
- Comment on the use of the coordinating conjunction "AND" in this poem. (1 point)
ANSWERS
- The person is a labor leader, government official, or employer who exploits his subjects but profits from their sweat. "He Goes with the seed and comes back with the fat burning fruit / And I eat the fruit."
- The poem is about the exploitation of workers by their bosses or their leaders. The leader does not work with the workers, but benefits from their sweat. He or she doesn't care about them while he invades their sons and prostitutes their daughters. Finally, he doesn't go out of his way to communicate about his level of understanding.
- A metaphor is used, "seed" has been used metaphorically for the input, work or effort of the workers, while "fruit" means the product or result of the effort of the workers. This portrays the hard-working nature of the workers and how they are exploited by their leaders.
Irony is used. It is ironic that the leader benefits from the workers' work, but he is not involved in the process. "They suck the energy out of slimy yucca / And faucets rust over time: Until they make a Benz / And I drive the Benz" - The tone is hypocritical. If the person really feared the workers, he would not engage in such forms of exploitation. He also asks the workers to join, but doesn't communicate with them about their level of understanding. "And I tell the workers to join in / Knowing full well they can't see, hear or understand."
-
- Explorer - "... make them collegiate, make them official" "And I... prostitute your daughters"
- Opportunist - "And I eat the fruit" "And I drive the Benz"
- Hypocrite – “And I tell the workers to unite
- Inhumane/Cruel/Insensitive - "I have invaded your children" (each characteristic well illustrated)
-
- Go with seeds and come back with fat burning fruits
and i eat the fruit
It explains the effort of the workers and the result of their hard work that later benefits the leaders who have not participated in the process of obtaining the result. This highlights the degree of exploitation of workers. - But one day a storm will flood
the rotten dumpsters
And wash the eyes of the workers
Refreshes long worn muscles
Blow
Talk about hope; workers will rise up and change their condition
- Go with seeds and come back with fat burning fruits
-
- They work under the scorching sun "And they still work: at boiling point",
- There is noise pollution "In the sound of the head breaking"
- Death "threatening saw"
- They don't eat well "They suck the energy out of the slimy cassava"
- They drink dirty water "AND rusty faucets" (either one)
- Give additional details about the suffering/exploitation of workers.

QUESTION 19
- HISTORY. (10 PHOTOS)
THE DISOBEDIENT MAN
When Abasi, the supreme god, created man, he feared that they would become his equals and forbade them to settle on the land, but Atai, the wife of the first man, decided to defy God's instructions. People were allowed to live on the land, but they were not allowed to provide their own food. They had to eat in heaven with Abasi, and when a bell rang calling them, they had to come to eat. They were also not allowed to live together as husband and wife and not have children, because then they would forget about God.
The man obeyed God's commandments, but the woman began to work the land and produce her own food. Soon the man found her food sweeter than the food of heaven. Then the man forgot God and tilled the ground with the woman, and they lived together as husband and wife.
One day, Abasi asked about the woman, but the man said that she was ill. He had hidden her because she was pregnant! The woman gave birth to a son, and then a daughter. Abasi knew what had happened. Abasi pointed out to Atai that his fears were justified. People had forgotten. Abasi said: "They will never be the same again."

QUESTION 22
- Read the following story and then answer the questions.
There was a great famine in the land where Obunde and his wife Oswera lived with their nine children. The only creatures that had a little food were the ogres, and before parting with their food they demanded many things.
One day, Oswera went to an ogre's house and asked him for something to eat, as his children were almost starving at that time.
"I have no food but sweet potatoes," said the bogeyman.
'I'll be happy with potatoes. We have nothing, not a grain to eat in my house and the children are starving. Please give me some and I'll give it back to you after the harvest.
“No, if you want food, you have to trade it for something now. Will you give me one of your children in exchange for my parents? Oswera hesitated, her children were dear to her, but they would die without food.
"Yes, I'll give you one for this meal, if you can give us some potatoes," Oswera replied. So he filled a big basket full of potatoes and told the bogeyman the exact time that he could go to his house and bring one of his sons to eat.
Oswera thought long and hard and decided that she would not give one of her children to the ogre. So he cut the stems off the young plantains and cooked them well.
When the ogre arrived, she gave it to him and the animal left very satisfied, soon the potatoes ran out and she had to go back to the ogre.
Oswera and Obunde, her husband, kept cooking banana sticks for the ogre every time he came to fetch one of their children, until one day he ran out of banana sticks to cook for the animal.
'You already ate all my children, but we still need the potatoes. What will we give you now? Oswera asked desperately.
"Then I will go and find you and your husband," the ogre replied angrily as he helped Oswera carry the basket on her head.
“Yes, come tomorrow at the usual time in the afternoon to pick me up. I must have cooked for you,” Oswera said quietly.
The next day the ogre went punctually as Oswera told him and found the house almost deserted. He looked everywhere, but there was no one in part of Obunde. Then he looked towards his usual place and found a huge bowl containing a large meal that Oswera had prepared for him. The ogre did not notice that they had prepared a dog instead of Oswera. After dinner, the bogeyman told Obunde that he would come for him the next day. Obunde was very worried and could not sleep at night. The next day he began to cry.
"Ah, Oswera, my wife, how did you cook and how should I cook for the coconut?" She sat in the dust of her camp and wept. Oswera was very angry with her husband.
You stupid fool! Why sit there crying all day? How do you think I cooked myself? Grab one of the dogs and quickly prepare it for the bogeyman!
Very quickly Obunde got up, caught, killed and prepared a dog for the ogre. So he joined his wife and his children in a large hollow part of a tree on his property where they had been hiding. That day the ogre knew that he would have his last meal of succulent human flesh. Being a generous and selfless boogeyman, he took many of his fellow boogers with him. They went to have a party.
Suddenly, while they were eating, they heard a man singing happily. No, they couldn't believe it! It was Obunde who sang! And she bragged about how he tricked the coconut.
The greedy ogre ate banana stalks
Not my family;
The greedy ogre ate a dog.
¡ No abrumes a Magoro!
The greedy ogre on banana stalks
Not my family;
Come now Untie the tail,
Your children and wife.
Obunde sang the words and the ogres became very angry. The first ogre ran for the hollow of the tree, but Oswera had heated a long piece of iron until he turned white. He shoved the iron into the ogre's mouth. The beast fell dead. The next one ran into the hole and was killed by Oswera in the same way. In this way she killed all the ogres and saved her husband and all her children.
My story ends there.

QUESTION 24

wagging cow tail
Once upon a time there was a much loved village chief. He loved to hunt and shared the meat with the whole town. One day he went hunting like always, but he didn't come back. His people were very worried. They searched and searched. As they searched, they kept singing his favorite song, hoping that he would sing back. The song echoed through the forest:
mother nature, mother nature
you have enough for everyone
Mother nature, may my arrow find plenty of meat
Meat to feed all my people
After a long fruitless search, the chief was presumed dead. Soon after, his wife gave birth to his seventh child. With his first breath, he asked, "What happened to my father?"
"Have you ever seen anything like that?" the villagers whispered among themselves in surprise.
'Never!' was the soft reply everywhere. Immediately, the newborn's question made his six older siblings search for his father again. They sadly discovered that he had been swallowed by a python. Fortunately, they all had special talents and powers that together restored his father's life. The whole town danced, the joyful clap of the feet resounded throughout the town.
Now a big problem arose: which of the sons would one day become the heir and receive the cow's tail that was a symbol of authority? Each of the six children claimed that it was their magical powers that brought their father back from the spirit land. Each statement seemed as valid as the next. Confused, the villagers scratched their heads like chickens scratching the ground.
'Well, our country has many rivers, each with its own source. In the same way, the search that finally led to the restoration of my life had a source," said the chief in a determined tone. QUESTION 27
Then, ashamed of fortune and the eyes of men,
I only cry my state of pariah,
and disturb the deaf air with my useless cries,
And look at me and curse my fate
I wish myself as one richer in hope,
Introduced as he, as he owned with friends,
Yearning for this man's art and that man's reach,
With what I like the most, I am less satisfied,
In these thoughts, however, I almost despise myself;
Maybe I think about you, and then about my condition,
(Like the lark at dawn)
From the gloomy earth sing hymns at the gates of heaven,
Cause your sweet love being remembered brings so much wealth
So I despise changing my status with kings.

It also happened that both families ran out of salt. Cock's wife told her husband that they had run out of salt and asked her to bring some millet to Kibiro. He agreed, went to Kibiro, got salt, and set out for the return trip.
The other family found out. Dona Pipa also asked her husband to go to Kibiro to get salt, since the lazy family had nothing to bring to Kibiro. She on the way she found the rooster resting on the way home with the salt behind him. He stood on one leg and had one of his legs tucked under his wing, as roosters usually do when they rest. the salt miners cut off his leg in exchange for the salt. Kite accepted the lie and headed towards Kibiro, ready to do the same. Cock continued his journey and returned home safely.
Arriving at Kibiro, Kite offered his leg for a packet of salt which the miners gladly accepted. His leg was later amputated, leaving him immobile and unable to even carry salt home. The poor airman flew back home, where he was received with great sorrow by the family, especially when he told them of the ordeal he had gone through. Later, Kite's family would receive the traumatizing news that the rooster had advanced on Kite, causing him to lose his leg.

QUESTION 36
Read this story and answer the questions behind it.
Once upon a time there was an orphan named Kabiini who lived with her grandmother. The grandmother had to go to the garden every day and since she had no one to take care of the girl, she locked her in the hut and warned her not to open the door for anyone.
The girl was not long in the hut when the sweet voices of the birds and the bright rays of the sun urged her to come out. She opened the door and stepped outside to enjoy the sun. She did not stay long when an ogre came and said:
"Why are you there?"
"My grandmother locked me in the hut and went out into the garden," Kabiini replied.
In a terrifying voice, the ogre said: “Give me one of your fingers. I'll bite a little and I won't hurt you. Fearing the ogre, Kabiini complied.
When the grandmother returned, she found that her grandson had lost a finger.
"What happened, my son?" she cried.
"I was outside when an ogre came, he promised not to hurt me if he bit my finger."
The old woman begged the girl not to open the door and not to come out of the hut again. The next day she hid it in the 'thengi' (closet). As she left, she closed the closet and the cabin. Right after she left, the ogre came looking for Kabiini, he didn't find her. After going around the hut and looking everywhere, he yelled:
'Cabin! Cabin! Where are you?
The girl did not answer. Then the coconut screamed louder,
'Cabin! Cabin! Where are you?'
Filled with fear, the girl replied: “I am here, hiding in my grandmother's closet. And I'm not allowed to answer her calls.
The ogre opened the door, went to the closet and ate another finger. Then he locked her up and left.
In the evening, the old woman was terribly sad when she learned that her granddaughter had lost another finger. She again warned him not to respond to her bogeyman's calls. The next day, she hid the girl in a large pot, but when the ogre arrived, Kabiini revealed her hiding place and she lost another finger.
The ogre devoured the girl little by little, day after day, until finally the girl was reduced to a skeleton. And that's the end of my story.

QUESTION 37
- hare and tortoise
Once upon a time there was a hare and a tortoise. They were good friends and met regularly to discuss many topics. Hare used to tease Tortoise for her short legs and her slow pace. Although Tortoise was ridiculed when she tried to explain that she always got things done, even at her slow pace, Hare's daily teasing made him nervous.
"I would like to find a way to show the hare that although I am slow, I am firm and sure," the Tortoise anguished.
One day the hare challenged the tortoise to a race. "Let's get into a race. With your stubby legs I can run ten times faster than you!" The hare said this out loud so that other animals nearby could hear.
"You can beat me, but you can't run ten times faster than me," Turtle protested.
To settle the argument, the two decided to fight the next day. Haas ran home, took the horn from him and blew it. When the other animals came to ask what the news was, Hare invited them to watch the race the next day.
As the race began, the Hare flew off as if attacked by a swarm of bees, leaving the Tortoise far behind.
Soon, Haas came across a group of animals resting in some bushes. He stopped to talk to them. "I'm sure I can take a nap and still wake up to beat Tartaruga," he declared proudly. He then went to find a good shade and fell asleep.
When Haas woke up, all he could see was the silhouette of the Tortoise disappearing right in front of him. When he reached the end point, the Turtle had already finished the race. The hare went away in shame, and he never again teased the tortoise for his short legs and slow gait.

QUESTION 39
- Read the following story and answer the following questions.
In the beginning the sun married the moon. They traveled together for a long time, the sun in front and the moon behind. While they were traveling, the moon got tired and the sun took her away three days a month.
One day the moon angered the sun and was beaten by the sun, just as some women are beaten by their husbands. But it turned out that the moon was one of those bad-tempered women who fought with their husbands. When she was hit, she struggled and injured Sun's forehead. The sun also struck the moon, scratched her face and gouged out her eye.
When the sun realized that she was hurt, she was very ashamed and said to herself: "I will shine so bright that people will not be able to look at me." And then she shone so bright that people couldn't look at him without squinting. That is why the sun shines so brightly.
As for the moon, she did not feel ashamed and no longer needed to shine. And even now, if you look closely at the moon, you can see the wounds the sun has inflicted on it.

- Read the following poem and answer the following questions.
When to sessions of sweet silent thoughts
I evoke the memory of things past,
I sigh the lack of many things that I was looking for
And with old problems, new regrets, my best waste of time
So that I can drown an eye, not used to flow,
For former friends hidden in the dateless night of death,
and cry the shame of a new love canceled long ago,
And I regret the cost of many lost visions.
So I can repent of the previous complaints,
And strong from there to there, say o'er.
The sad story of lost regrets,
That now I am paying as if I had not paid before.
But if while thinking of you, dear friend,
All losses are restored and the duel ends.
